Aurora College Western Arctic Research Centre/ Aurora Research Institute highlights advanced digital learning and design technology in new interactive workshop

From March 3-19, Aurora College partnered with Aklavik Community Corporation, Gwich’in Tribal Council, and Inuvialuit Regional Corporation to bring an interactive workshop with state of the art technology.

In the hamlet of Aklavik, NT, Aurora College instructors led participants on how to use a 3D printer, a laser cutter and direct-to-film printing technology, to create personalized items that they could take home.

Using various tools along with their newly forged skills, participants created any number of fun things, like laser printing a design off of birch bark, or using a sublimation printer to print on a mug.

This workshop highlights the value of bringing new technology into the design process. While it’s fun to bring home their souvenirs, participants learned valuable skills that can be applied to digital learning, problem solving, and innovation, and help grow businesses and opportunities in the northern part of Canada and beyond.
