After a seven-month long build, the Hydraulic Air Compressor (HAC) Demonstrator at Dynamic Earth has officially opened. The 100 feet high (above and below ground) industrial scale system for testing and demonstration of compressed air production is installed in a former elevator shaft at Science North’s Dynamic Earth in Sudbury, ON. This innovative technology provides an energy efficient alternative to conventional mechanical air compression that promises up to 50% savings in lifecycle cost for mine operators and other industrial-scale users of pneumatic power. For the past few decades, the city's oldest museum has been the only public building on the first height of land on the Fraser River downstream of the Nechako River confluence. Already known to Canadians as the Vancouver Aquarium’s sustainable seafood program, a news release Thursday announced that Ocean Wise had expanded its goals, becoming “a new global ocean-conservation organization focused on protecting and restoring our world’s oceans.” Read more

TELUS World of Science receives $3.35 million in federal funding for important upgrades and renovations
